HYCOLOUR 193
Extra Durable Slip Resistant Coloured Coating
Description
Hycolour 193 is an extremely durable two component surface
coating. This unique, acrylic urethane, hybrid, UV stable resin
has been specifically designed to provide a highly durable
and versatile colour demarcation system in combination with
effective surface friction for vehicular and underfoot safety.
Uses
Airports, multi-storey and outdoor car parks, central reservations,
cycleways, designated areas in retail parks, docking ramps,
boat walkways, driveways, factories, factory gangways, steps,
footbridges, parks, pedestrian areas, playgrounds ramps, road
junctions, roads, school safe routes and many other applications.
Hycolour 193 has been especially designed as a highly durable
coloured anti-slip system providing long-lasting demarcation
and prolonging the effective life of the existing surfacing in
highly trafficked areas.
Benefits
•
Instant brightly coloured surfaces
•
Full range of UV stable colours
•
High level of friction to reduce skid/slip

Skid Resistance (SRV) 55
To determine the correct coverage of the material please
carefully consider the following:
•
Porosity of existing surface
(Will the material be absorbed into the surface?)
•
Rugosity of existing surface
(Will the material flow into dips and holes).
•
Is it required to cover existing letters/symbols?
(If yes then a slightly higher coating thickness may be required,
depending on the colour chosen)
•
Method of application
(The use of spray equipment will generally give the greatest
coverage per litre).
•
Anticipated wear duty
(Pedestrian traffic will abrade the material significantly less
than vehicular)
It is therefore very important to apply this material onto a
representative trial area, so that accurate application and wear
figures may be obtained prior to full-scale application.
Relative Wear Characteristics
Samples have been tested and classified according to their wear
relative to water-based road paint.

All colour references are approximate and therefore may vary
slightly from batch to batch. In areas where colour matching is
of high importance, please ask for same number batch material.

PRODUCT INFORMATION - HYCOLOUR 193
Surface Preparation
It is essential for long life coatings that the substrate to be coated
is dry, clean and free from impurities. The surface temperature
where the coating is to be applied should be a minimum of 5°C
and rising. This product will cure by cross-linking and is therefore
not dependent upon temperature curing. However Please
Note: Curing times will shorten as the ambient and surface
temperature increase.
In all cases where thin film coatings are to be used, it is essential
that care is taken over the substrate preparation. It is very
important to ensure the removal and neutralisation of any and all
contaminants, which may affect the bonding of the coatings to
the surface.
Asphalt (includes all bitumen-based substrates) –
Hycolour 193 is designed to provide a good bond with asphalt
through micro fusion of the asphalt and coating layer, this is
aided by the incorporation of selected high dispersal solvents.
It is therefore important that care be taken in the application of
Hycolour 193 ensuring that where a large thickness is required,
this should be obtained by a number of thinner coatings rather
than one thick coating which may result in the temporary
softening of the underlying surface.
Under normally conditions Hycolour 193 should be applied
as a single coat. Where extreme conditions of wear may be
encountered it is recommended that two coats be applied
(coating can be re-worked until tacky) and allow a drying time of
2 hours between applications.
Concrete – Hycolour 193 adheres well to concrete where it
can be shown that the surface is absorbent and free from both
contamination and laitance (Ensure the complete removal of all
concrete curing compounds).
For all substrates, the contractor should first ensure that Hycolour
193 is suitable for use by conducting a small represent able trial.
Product Application
Hycolour 193 is self-priming on all substrates that are normally
encountered within the specified application areas. However,
highly porous surfaces may again require two coats to achieve
the desired film thickness. Allow a minimum of two hours
between coats. Unusual surfaces may require pre-treatment –
please see above or refer to our office.
The slip / skid resistant properties of Hycolour 193 are conferred
by the inclusion of selected fine aggregates and consequently
some settlement and separation may occur upon storage. It is
therefore very important to ensure complete mixing prior to
use by 1/. Up-turning the sealed container the night before use.
2/. Immediately prior to use add the activator (Catalyst) and stir
thoroughly using a mechanical stirrer until the components are
completely homogenous before proceeding to apply.
Do not add thinners, solvents or other materials.
Roller Application - A 25mm pile roller or foam squeegee is
recommended. Work quickly and apply to the surface using
even pressure and ensuring good distribution of the material
at the required set coverage rate. Small areas such as dressing
into edges and corners can be applied by hand brushing. Mixed
components have a pot life of approximately 3hrs at 21oC
(Humidity dependent).
Spray Application - A Single part spray applicator can be used.
Ensure that the entire contents of each pail is sprayed out before
replacing with the next mixed pail. Do not top-up pail content
as you spray. Regular flushing with new material will prevent the
hardening of material in the equipment.
Two component spray applicators are recommended for the
spraying of large areas.
Care should be taken to avoid over spray. The operator should
wear protective clothing in accordance with the Health and
Safety Data Sheet.
Where Hycolour 193 is to be overlaid for the incorporation of
symbols, ensure that full cure has been obtained prior to over
laying.
NOTE: Thermoplastic markings can be applied over full cured
Hycolour 193.
Roller heads, where used, should be discarded after use. Other
tools and equipment should be cleaned with Cleaning Solvent
193 immediately after use.
Cleaning of Hycolour 193 - The surface may be
cleaned using standard household type detergent solutions.
(Please confirm the type to be used with our laboratory prior
to use). Rinse with clean water afterwards.
Packaging & Storage
Hycolour is supplied as a pack of between 24kg and 26kg
(dependent on colour) made up approximately as follows:
Base 21Kg drum
Activator 5 Kg drum
Store under cover in dry, well ventilated conditions.
To ensure optimum application properties, Hycolour 193 should
be stored at room temperature prior to use. Shelf life is normally
12 months.
Health & Safety
Please see Separate Health and Safety Sheet for details.
